Ron is a 1961 graduate of Germantown High School, Philadelphia, PA. He lettered in baseball, football, and track. He is a 1966 graduate of Temple University with a degree in physical education and also played football for Temple.
Ron started his coaching career at Simon Gratz High School where he coached football, basketball and track. After eight years he taught and coached football at Roxborough High School. He then continued his career at Lincoln High School where he coached football and basketball while winning the city title in badminton. He finally ended up at Washington High School where he got his first head football coaching job in 1985. He became the first coach in Washington history to win 10 straight football games and made it to the Public League championship game his first year. In 22 years Ron has become the winningest coach in the Philadelphia Public League with a record of 196-54-2. Ron has also tied for the most wins in the city of Philadelphia. He has been named many times as Coach of the Year by all the major Philadelphia newspapers. He is a two time winner of the Philadelphia Eagles Coach of the Month Award and received the Philadelphia Coaches Association Coach of the Year Award and the District XIII Coach of the Year Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association Award. He has been elected to the city All Star Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and he holds the record for the most playoff wins at 40. Ron has also coached five Big 33 football players.
Ron's happiest moments are when his former players and coaches come by to visit and talk about old times. He continues to coach football and teaches at Washington High School and is involved in a 30 million dollar face lifting project of Philadelphia Public League Athletic Facilities including four super sites.
