Lou Falconi was born and raised in Farrell, PA. He graduated in 1965 from Farrell High School, where he played football and ran track. He went on to Edinboro State College and played football for two years before graduating in 1970. Lou was drafted into the U.S. Army where he spent an eight month tour of duty in South Vietnam.
In 1973 he was hired as a Social Studies teacher and Assistant Football Coach at Farrell High School. He became the Head Football Coach in 1980. On November 13, 2006 after compiling a career record of 210 wins, 91 losses and 6 ties he retired. During his 27 years as head coach, there have been many great accomplishments. These include: three appearances in the P.I.A.A. Class A State Championship game, with two victories in 1995 and 1996; five trips to Three Rivers Stadium, wining four W.P.I.A.L. Class A Championships in 1986, 1990, 1995 and 1996; one District 10 title in 1985; eighteen playoff appearances, of which sixteen were in the W.P.I.A.L.; nine Conference Championships, with the last three as members of the traditionally tough Big 7 Conference; three of his former players were chosen for the Big 33 Classic, while twenty-one of his players were selected to the Associated Press All-State Team.
Lou’s personal honors include being chosen eight times as Conference Coach of the Year; three time PSFCA Coach of the Year in 1986, 1995 and 1996; and he was honored as High School Coach of the Year in 1996 by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian-American Hall of Fame.
Throughout Lou’s career, his most loyal supporters were his family: his wife Patty and their three children, Lori, Lisa and Lou, Jr. who served as a manager, player and assistant coach; his parents, Anthony & Lucille Falconi; and his seven younger brothers and sisters and their families.
To his many friends, former players, teachers, and coaches, Lou will be always sincerely grateful. To all those responsible for his selection into the PSFCA Hall of Fame, he is most Thankful.
